According to Des Moines police, a 91-year-old man was struck and killed by a dump truck near the downtown area Monday morning around 8 AM.
The accident occurred as the man was attempting to cross the road in his motorized wheelchair. The dump truck driver was making a right turn at the same time and struck the man, who he says he did not see.
Police are still investigating but no charges have been filed.
A Davenport woman was killed in East Moline in a car-pedestrian accident Saturday, May 15, around midnight, according to police.
The woman was crossing Avenue of the Cities without the benefit of a crosswalk or traffic light when she tripped and fell onto the road. She was unable to move out of the path of oncoming traffic, which was also could not stop.
The woman received serious head, neck, and chest injuries and died at the scene.
A suit brought by a Des Moines man allegedly struck by a Des Moines Area city bus due to the driver’s negligence has reached trial. The bus driver maintains that the cross-walk remained clear as he began his turn, seconds before the accident occurred at East Sixth Street and East Grand Avenue on July 17, 2007.
The man is seeking compensation for medical expenses, physical suffering, and lost income. The trial is projected to last around one week.
