Ford Recalls F-150s Over Airbag Defect

Posted on February 23rd, 2011 No Comments

Ford Motor Co. said Wednesday it will recall more than 144,000 F-150 pickup trucks for potential airbag problems.

The recall includes 2005 and 2006 model year pickup trucks sold in the U.S. and Canada. The automaker issued the recall after receiving reports from consumers of airbags inadvertently deploying. The airbag defect was traced to vehicles build during the first shift at the company’s now-closed Norfolk Assembly Plant.

Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said, in a statement, that an improperly installed wire in the steering wheel can cause a short circuit to occur, illuminating the airbag maintenance lamp. If the vehicle is not serviced, the airbag could deploy, even if the vehicle has not experienced any impact.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration asked Ford to recall 1.3 million trucks including 2004 models. Federal safety regulators are reviewing the automaker’s recall plan to determine whether it is adequate.

Child injuries caused by defective car seats

Posted on December 16th, 2009 No Comments

Car seats are designed to keep children safe in cars. For many children, these car seats are necessary for ensuring their safety because most seat belts are not designed for small children.

However, car seats are not always designed properly. Sometimes the car seats may contain defects that could put the child in danger. For instance, if the car seat strap does not buckle properly, then the child may be thrown from the car seat during an accident.

If your child has been injured in a car seat accident, contact Your Iowa car seat defect lawyers of LaMarca & Landry, P.C., at 877-327-2600.

What is an intentional misuse defense?

Posted on November 19th, 2009 1 Comment

Most products come with instructions and warnings that inform the consumer about proper uses. For instance, a microwave will often include instructions on which items are suitable for heating up.

If a consumer follows instructions but still incurs an injury while using the product, then that consumer will likely have a reasonable personal injury claim.

If, on the other hand, the user understands how  to properly use the product but intentionally misuses it anyway, then that person likely will not win a products liability case.

In a products liability case, the plaintiff will likely need to show that the injury was not a result of intentional misuse, while the defense will often attempt to prove intentional misuse.

If you or anyone you know has been injured while using a product, contact Your Iowa products liability lawyers of LaMarca & Landry, P.C., at 877-327-2600.

The requirements of strict liability for product liability cases

Posted on October 15th, 2009 No Comments

Many people are involved in accidents resulting from home appliacnes. While some of these accidents are the result of careless handling of the appliance, some may be due to a defect with the product.

Proving a product liability claim is generally easier for plaintiffs than most personal injury cases because of strict liability. Under strict liability, the plaintiff is not required to prove precisely how the defendent was negligent.

On the other hand, the plaintiff will still need to show that the product was in fact defective, that the defect led to the injuries, and the product was used properly.

If you believe you were injured because of a defective product, contact the Your Iowa product liability lawyers of LaMarca & Landry, P.C., at 877-327-2600.
