A Florida mother has filed a lawsuit against Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center and a nurse for negligence and failing to properly train hospital staff after her daughter’s finger was accidentally cut off by the nurse.
The 15-year-old mom took her then three-month-old daughter to the hospital for a high fever and bronchitis. She stayed in the hospital for three days and had to have an IV. It was when the nurse was cutting the bandage that kept the tube in place that she snipped the child’s pinky finger.
The child was immediately taken to Tampa General Hospital, but surgeons could not reattach the finger because the nerve endings were too small. The mother is concerned about the physical and emotional effects her child may experience.
