Des Moines woman killed in two-motorcycle collision

Police have identified a woman killed Sunday evening in a two-motorcycle collision as a 26-year-old resident of Des Moines. The woman was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her 35-year-old husband.

The couple crashed into the back of a motorcycle being ridden by a 55-year-old Altoona man close to the 400 block of East 30th Street around 6:30 p.m. The Altoona man sustained minor injuries but was otherwise unhurt. Police report that the woman was thrown from the motorcycle and killed instantly, while her husband was transported to Mercy Medical Center with a broken leg.

The investigation is ongoing as to whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in this accident. None of the people involved were wearing helmets.
